Birmingham Spring Market – Part 2 – The FOOD!!!

So here is the 2nd part to my review of the Birmingham Spring Market which happened on Saturday 12th April down in Digbeth.

This was definitely the best part for me! The FOOD!!

I had been looking at various twitter feeds for a while about the food that was going to be on show that day and dribbling over the offerings, so I couldn’t wait to try them out.

The first place I headed for was Becky’s Bhaji’s . I had been salivating all week for their Spinach and Paneer Kofta and boy was it worth the wait…

Yummy! Spinach and Paneer Kofta

They were so umptious inside and the paneer was really soft and they had a nice underlying spicy note to them, which being the wimp I am, didn’t overtake the dish (look at me getting all food technical!)

They came with two lovely dips – but to be honest, I wolfed this down so quickly I didn’t get chance to use much of the sauce! I can’t to see them at Bewdley Street Food Market on 26th April.

I then had a lovely beverage from the juice stall that was there (sorry, I didn’t get the name of the store) it was a lovely Apple, Strawberry and Rhubarb juice.

After uming and ahhing about what to try next: pizza, lamb or toastie I went from a Four Cheese Toastie from Jabberwocky.

I have been wanting to try their toasted sandwiches for a while – since I saw them last summer at the Brindley Place Farmers Market they  hold in the summer. Knowing that I wouldn’t get a chance to test them there as I no longer work in Brindley Place, I seized the moment.

It was perfect in every way! The cheese wasn’t too hot that I had to wait forever for it to cool down before I could take a bite. The cheese had melted perfectly (there’s that word again!) and they were little bits of caramelised onion thrown in for pure pleasure!

The people at Jabberwocky were lovely and chatty and I would defiantly recommend you seek them out! Next on my list is one of their sweet toasties!

For desert, I sampled some lovely brownies from odonnell bakehouse. I brought a Salted Caramel brownie to nibble on after my mains, and then also brought one of their Irish Stout Brownies and Gooey Orange Brownie – which me and hubby have just devoured!

Looking at their website I discovered they also do a Peanut Butter Brownie, which is now on my hit list – I love peanut butter!

Again, they were lovely people to chat too, as were all the stall holders at the event.

My final purchase was a massive scotch egg with Stilton from a lovely gentleman, but for the life of me I can’t remember what the stall was called, all I know is he will be the Bewdley local Produce Market on the 4th May. I did manage to get a picture of this before I scoffed it on Saturday evening.

Huge scotch egg!

Huge scotch egg!

I do hope they make this delightful festival/market a regular occurrence as I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the friendly stall holders as well as the craft and food offerings!

I will hopefully be attending the Bewdley Spring Fair on the 4th and 5th May to see some of the lovely traders again!

Keep an eye on Spring Markets twitter account @seasonalmarkets for news on their next event!
