About me – Depression

Hey everyone,

I know, I know I haven’t posted all week but there has been a reason and I’m afraid won’t be around much in the next few weeks either.

As some of you may know, I was in a car accident last year and since then I have been suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, which has led to me suffering from depression.

I thought I had a hold of it and was trying to get on with my life as best I could, however last week I had a little set back, for no real reason and have been signed off work for a bit.

There are many causes of PTSD and depression and for me it is really hard to deal with as I am usually quite an out-going, lively and bubbly person, but at the moment I am far from the person I once was. I am trying to use this time to re-evaluate life and what is important to me, one of which I definitely feel is this blog, but I am finding it hard to concentrate on to many things and at this point in time, my marriage is most important and I need to work on this and what I want for us.

If you feel like watching a video on seeing how this affects me day-to-day, there is a good one on youtube called The Black Dog of Depression which was done by the World Health Organisation. My Counsellor made me watch this and it describes my feelings perfectly.

If you feel that you can relate to this in any way, please seek help and don’t be afraid to talk to someone as you don’t and won’t feel like this forever.

Hopefully, I shall be back working on my blog soon.

Take care everyone

Bank Holiday Shenanigans!!

Hey everyone,

I hope you all had a great Easter break and didn’t eat too much chocolate – oh what the hell, I hope you ate so much chocolate you were sick!!

I really wanted to see the seaside this bank holiday, but it wasn’t to be! Instead, me and the hubby headed out for the day on Friday and Saturday to make the most of the beautiful sunshine and of course to experience some different eateries!

On Friday we went to Barnt Green, which is in South Birmingham, just because I hadn’t been there before and WOW, the houses were amazing, millionaire style dreams, that I could only imagine living in!

After a little wander along millionaires row, we stopped of at the Barnt Green Inn for some food. The building is quite grand and oldey worldly, very beautiful. It was quite busy, as you would expect for a bank holiday and we had quite a wait for our food, about 45 minutes, so it was a good job we weren’t starving!

I went for the Gnocchi with butternut squash, spinach, ricotta and sage

Lunch at Barnt Green Inn

Yum…Gnocchi with Butternut Squash

and the hubby went for Spit Roasted Chicken with lemon and garlic confit, and chips (or frites as their described on the menu!)

Spit Roast Chicken

My Gnocchi was lovely, if a bit weird in texture – I think this was the ricotta and the pumpkin seeds. I liked the fact that it wasn’t smothered in sauce and was just emulsified by the ricotta.

My hubby’s chicken was lovely and garlicy with the aioli on the chips giving quite a kick of garlicy goodness!

We decided not to have pudding, a) because of the wait and b) we were due at my moms in a couple of hours to have fish and chips!!

We will defiantly be heading back there again, and plans are possibly in motion to have my Family Birthday Lunch there in a couple of months, just hope that the service time improves!

After lunch we went for a walk around the Lickey Hills, which if you are not from around Birmingham is a big massive park/wooded area with some lovely walks, along with a play area and a visitor centre. We went a long meander around the park and then took 10 minutes just to sit and people watch! We did end up dog watching more than people watching, looking at all the different types of doggies and wishing we could have one!

That was the end of the Good Friday outing!

On Saturday, as the sun was still shining we decided to go to Henley-in-Arden which is next to Stratford-upon-Avon. It is one of our favourite places to go, and we usually go for a walk up the hills and then have an ice cream. We did do that but after the walk we decided to go for Lunch at the White Swan.

We have been to the White Swan before and were impressed with the food, but this time they really surpassed our expectations, with hubby’s meal getting a 9.8 out of 10 – which is extremely rare score from him!

We only had sandwiches, me going for the Steak Ciabatta and hubby going for the VIP Club Sandwich

White Swan, Henley-in-Arden

VIP Sandwich

We were absolutely stuffed after that, it really was one of the best steak sandwiches I had ever eaten and as for my hubby’s sandwich, he couldn’t stop talking about how it all worked together, going all chef like on me!

Even though we were full to burst, we couldn’t go to Henley without going to the ice cream shop! They do so many flavours it is always difficult to choose, however I went for a new one – rhubarb and Custard as I am so into rhubarb at the moment which is being influenced by my love for the new Molton Brown rhubarb and Rose range and the other half went for a Toffee Crunch.

Not sure I wasn’t a massive fan of mine – had a few too many ice particles in, but it was definitely different.

We headed off to do the weekly shop, and didn’t feel the need to eat dinner that evening, we were that full!

Easter Sunday was spent lazing around in the morning, eating a big roast dinner for lunch and then ended with me having a massive paperwork clear out as I am trying to streamline my storage in the spare room and upgrade to some new ikea bits.

Oh, and also Sunday involved eating lots of chocolate!!

Today, Easter Monday, we headed of to the cinema with my little bro (who is, by the way, a lot bigger than me!) to watch Amazing Spiderman 2 – if you haven’t been to see this, then you should defiantly go it was Epic! And to top it off, I got a little surprise when I was watching the film as one of the characters is played by a girl I went to school with, Felicity Jones! She has been in a few things I have watched but this was the first time I had seen her on the big screen!! I look forward to seeing more of her, as there is talk that she will in the next one as a baddy type character, which I can’t imagine as she was such a lovely girl at school!

Oh well, that was the end of our Bank Holiday Shenanigans! Not that interesting I know, but a lot better than what I would normally get up too, which is absolutely nothing!

Back to work tomorrow, and the start of another 4 day week! Yay!

Hope you all have a good week!

Hey guys!,

Today I received the Liebester award from the lovely Liannabell, my first ever nomination!! And I reached 10 followers on bloglovin, which doesn’t seem a lot compared to some blogs, but to me just to have one follower is a massive achievement.

I thought I would do the post straight away while it’s on my mind otherwise I may forget!!

So taking what Liannabell states on her wonderful blog, I need to write 11 random facts about myself then answer the 11 questions that she gave me and then nominate 11 other bloggers to answer 11 new questions of my choice! How exciting!

Don’t be afraid to try something different – at the end of the day if you don’t like it you can wipe it away!

4. Who is your fashion icon and why?

This question is difficult as I don’t really have a style and try to change it up as much as I can, so I don’t follow any particular one person – but I suppose I would say I admire Marilyn Monroe for body confidence and beauty

5. What is the one trend that you never understood or thought was just wrong?

Difficult as there are quite a few and most of them belong to the 80’s but if I could say one it would shell suits! And yes i did have one when I was about 5!

Ryan Gosling, especially in Crazy, Stupid, Love!

10. What is your favourite non-beauty item?

Peanut butter chocolate bars!!

11. What advice would you have for new bloggers?

I am still fairly new myself, so don’t really feel in a place to be giving advice, however if you are thinking about it, just go for it, make sure you try and post regularly and just make your blog your own and find inspiration in everyday life.

Birmingham Spring Market – Part 2 – The FOOD!!!

So here is the 2nd part to my review of the Birmingham Spring Market which happened on Saturday 12th April down in Digbeth.

This was definitely the best part for me! The FOOD!!

I had been looking at various twitter feeds for a while about the food that was going to be on show that day and dribbling over the offerings, so I couldn’t wait to try them out.

The first place I headed for was Becky’s Bhaji’s . I had been salivating all week for their Spinach and Paneer Kofta and boy was it worth the wait…

Yummy! Spinach and Paneer Kofta

Yummy! Spinach and Paneer Kofta

They were so umptious inside and the paneer was really soft and they had a nice underlying spicy note to them, which being the wimp I am, didn’t overtake the dish (look at me getting all food technical!)

They came with two lovely dips – but to be honest, I wolfed this down so quickly I didn’t get chance to use much of the sauce! I can’t to see them at Bewdley Street Food Market on 26th April.

I then had a lovely beverage from the juice stall that was there (sorry, I didn’t get the name of the store) it was a lovely Apple, Strawberry and Rhubarb juice.

After uming and ahhing about what to try next: pizza, lamb or toastie I went from a Four Cheese Toastie from Jabberwocky.

4 Cheese and caramelised onion toast

4 Cheese and caramelised onion toast

I have been wanting to try their toasted sandwiches for a while – since I saw them last summer at the Brindley Place Farmers Market they  hold in the summer. Knowing that I wouldn’t get a chance to test them there as I no longer work in Brindley Place, I seized the moment.

It was perfect in every way! The cheese wasn’t too hot that I had to wait forever for it to cool down before I could take a bite. The cheese had melted perfectly (there’s that word again!) and they were little bits of caramelised onion thrown in for pure pleasure!

The people at Jabberwocky were lovely and chatty and I would defiantly recommend you seek them out! Next on my list is one of their sweet toasties!

For desert, I sampled some lovely brownies from odonnell bakehouse. I brought a Salted Caramel brownie to nibble on after my mains, and then also brought one of their Irish Stout Brownies and Gooey Orange Brownie – which me and hubby have just devoured!

Looking at their website I discovered they also do a Peanut Butter Brownie, which is now on my hit list – I love peanut butter!

Again, they were lovely people to chat too, as were all the stall holders at the event.

My final purchase was a massive scotch egg with Stilton from a lovely gentleman, but for the life of me I can’t remember what the stall was called, all I know is he will be the Bewdley local Produce Market on the 4th May. I did manage to get a picture of this before I scoffed it on Saturday evening.

Huge scotch egg!

Huge scotch egg!

I do hope they make this delightful festival/market a regular occurrence as I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the friendly stall holders as well as the craft and food offerings!

I will hopefully be attending the Bewdley Spring Fair on the 4th and 5th May to see some of the lovely traders again!

Keep an eye on Spring Markets twitter account @seasonalmarkets for news on their next event!

Birmingham Spring Market – Part 1 Crafts

Hello everyone,

Today I thought I would give you a break from my haul posts (there are still a few to come yet!) and give you a review on a food/craft event I attended on Saturday in Brum.

This was the first Birmingham Spring Market, and I do hope they do more as it was a fab afternoon out. It was based down on Fazeley Street in Digbeth, which is fast becoming a mecca for street food.

Entrance was £1 and there were various food and craft stalls on offer to peruse, of which I did a lot of, along with making a few purchases (my No spend April is not going well!) and eating!

I first had a look around the craft stalls and came across this lovely stall by Melissa Smith Textiles

20140412_13482420140412_134835

This lovely ladies designs start of as a sketch and then digitally edited and then professional printed on to organic cotton.

I purchased this print on 3 items:

Victory Design

I brought a pillow, a notebook and a large make up bag. I just couldn’t resist the lovely bright design and colours!

My next none food purchase was from Gosia Weber handmade – it was beautiful purple suede pencil-case – however, I won’t be using it as a pencil-case, it’s too pretty – need to keep it away from water too as it is the softest suede ever!

so soft!

so soft!

I was really tempted with some of the handbags she had on display, but I had spent all my money by then! I will defiantly be making an appointment to go and see her at her workshop soon!

My next post – should be up tomorrow – will be about the amazing food I consumed at this fantastic market.

p.s. this actually has turned into a bit of a haul, so sorry about that!!

Molton Brown Haul!

Round two of my hauls from that fateful shopping trip!

So you may have seen my Birchbox post a couple of weeks ago, where I discovered the lovely Molton Brown Rhubarb and Custard Handcream, well I couldn’t wait to buy it in a larger size, so of I toddled to the MB store in Solihull, primarily to show and smell the product to my bestie and maybe to be tempted into buying the full size.

Molton Brown's Rhubarb and Custard Hand Cream and Hand Wash

Molton Brown’s Rhubarb and Custard Hand Cream and Hand Wash

Well, I also fell in love with the hand wash, which smelt just as divine as the hand cream. It just smells like those lovely boiled sweets I use to have and makes me want to eat my hands off!

If you are near a MB store then I would definitely recommend you have a sniff, and trust me, if you love sweet smells you will love this!

The only thing is I am too scared to put the hand wash in my bathroom just in case people use it!!!

What have you been loving so far in April?

Space NK Haul!

You may remember I few posts ago I mentioned that I had been out shopping after a counselling session and went absolutely crazy! Well here is my Space NK Haul.

I decided to split the hauls as otherwise my post would be massive and very boring indeed!

I definitely think Space NK has become my new mecca and I love looking at all the products beautifully laid out on the shelves. Plus the sales assistants are so lovely and helpful and chatty. This time I visited the Solihull branch.

I actually went in to look at the This Works Deep Sleep Pillow Spray but ended up buying the Aromatherapy Associates Deep Relax Bath and Shower Oil

Deep Relax Bath and Shower Oil

Deep Relax Bath and Shower Oil

This smells just like a spa, its beautiful! I have only used it once so far as it is quite expensive so I want it to last, but I can’t wait to use it again. The smell of my bath filled the whole of the upstairs for days and it was just lovely and peaceful.

The next purchase was a complete surprise. My beautiful best friend was talking about needing a new bb cream and the lovely sales assistant suggested a cc cream, the Erborian CC Creme Hd.

Erborian CC Creme Hd

The sales assistant demonstrated on her hand what happened when you put it on! Wow, it just looked magical!

It comes out white...

It comes out white…

And voila!

Skin Colour!

Skin Colour!

It is just a fabulous product. Again a little more than what I would normally spend as I love my drugstore foundations and bb cream, but I love using this CC Creme.  It has a fairly light coverage, so it is definitely one for good skin days, which for me at the moment is a rarity!

And at the moment Space NK have a discount code: DISCOVER20 available when you spend over £40! I feel another haul coming on….

Have any of you tried these products? Would love to know your thoughts.

p.s. sorry about the blurry photos, I am looking to upgrade my camera so any suggestions are welcome!
